More Facts

Fact : I am NOT attacking the PVBC, I have just stated the FACTS of the series of events during my trying to 'run away'.

Fact : I dated a different man that my parents APPROVED of for just over a year and a half PRIOR to 'dating' the 'guy' they did NOT approve of. My husband Jason is the ONLY man I have EVER given myself to.

Fact : I taught both violin and piano lessons AS WELL as working full time as janitor for the PVBC. I had to work VERY hard to make ends meet.

Fact : I paid for my car with money that I had saved from mowing lawn and babysitting. My brother Michael also GAVE me a little bit of money towards it as well.

Fact : My parents sold my car for what it was valued at WITHOUT my consent, and gave me a cheque for $75.

Fact : Gordon Harde gave me my first horse as a GIFT, it was not paid for.

Fact : I sent Christmas presents to my ENTIRE family in 1999 and the kids were not allowed to open them. They were never sent back to me.

Fact : My husband Jason has met with my dad on TWO separate occasions. He is not going solely on anything that I have said. HE has experienced Mike Sullivant D.D. for himself.

Fact : I am CONTINUING to serve the Lord to the best of my God given ability within the church I am now a part of.

Fact : I have not, nor WILL I post any comments, I will ONLY be adding posts to this blog.

Fact : I have, and will continue to read any and ALL comments.

Note: Some of these facts are in response to a 6 entry commentator.

  4. Laura,

One thing my wife and I noted a very long time ago (probably before we left,) that Mike makes no distinction between himself and PVBC:
If you're talking about PVBC, you're talking about him. If you're talking about Mike Sullivant, you're talking about PVBC.

If I were in your shoes, I would want to talk about / to my dad, not the pastor of PVBC or the church as a whole, but this doesn't seem possible.

  5. I just came across this blog from a friend, and I applaud you Laura. I spent 4 yrs in a similar situation, except the pastors there were not even my family, just pastors. Everything was monitored, I had to ask forgiveness from the church on a regular basis just for asking question about the faith. Looking back, I can now, by the grace of God, say that that church completely forgot Grace and ruled only by the law, and hurt and deceive people in the process.

After much bitterness, by the God's help I came to terms with them ruining my teenage years. God is gracious, loving, and his Grace is abundant. We are His hands, His feet, and my heart runneth over with joy at his faithfulness to me despite my shortcomings and unbelief at times. But He's forever pursing me and forgives me, unlike the legalistic church where you forever fall short and never measure up.

His love COMPELS me to live for Him, NOT because I fear men or their church rules. The FREEDOM we have in Christ is beyond words, and of that I will shout to all, and never stop telling the Great Story of Our AWESOME God. Thanks for being a light Laura...

  6. I've been following this for a few days now and have marveled at how one person trying to make peace with hurt has devolved into what it has. It can't be easy for Laura to read what some have written. It's so easy to point a finger of blame at someone simply because they don't share our own particular point of view or want to go their own way. God gives us the RIGHT to make choices knowing that we pay the price if the choice is a bad one or wrong one. Yet, God does not condemn or abandon us when we choose wrong or choose something that he opposes. (We humans need to put this into practice!) He does everything in his power to love us back to him and to help us make things right again. Sometimes, that is difficult and seems impossible.

Keep it up Laura! Be obedient to God in heaven. Allow the love of Jesus to radiate from you (it's visible in your photo!) Time cannot heal all wounds, but God can. May God continue the good work he has begun in you and help you heal. You're on the right road now.

  13. I sincerely believe this blog has no other purpose then to allow people to tell others how much they hate someone.

What if an unsaved person viewed this? How awful it would be to know in eternity that because of someone finding this blog and reading through it that they would want nothing to do with Christianity and spend all of eternity in hell. How is this building and edifying the faith of others?
Satan is sitting back and laughing.....glad to have Christians fighting against each other and totally missing the whole purpose of our lives here on earth. Most of my relatives are lost and on there way to hell. This blog would just prove there point...we are not different then they are, why would they want to have our Jesus?

I never knew "freedom" in Christ gave us permission to attack our brothers and sisters in Christ.

  15. Dear precious Mavis,

I'm quite certain that the comments would be worded in a much kinder manner if we thought we were dealing with are really brothers and sisters.

Or maybe it's just that only family would treat their own so poorly.

Either way, the fact is that one portion of this group still has open wounds while the other refuses to recognize there's a problem on their side.

Until that's resolved, there's no reason to treat the first aggressor as a heathen.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The situation at PVBC reminds me so much of a domestic abuse relationship/reaction.

the abuser uses control, fear, manipulation & threats to keep everything going well for HIM.

the abused, still in bondage refuse to admit a problem & can't understand people trying to "help" them, they want to be left alone, they want the people trying to help to shut up. they believe they are free but in reality, they are in so much bondage, and to be extremely honest they are also in danger, you think your family is safe? just wait until someone disagrees with PMS!

the abused that have broken free of the bondage are in different stages of healing, trying to break free of the fear & control that engulfed them for so long.

HOW LONG WILL WE STAY QUIET OUT OF FEAR & HURT AND LET THE ABUSE CONTINUE?

Thank-you Laura for taking the time & effort to help us heal and show others the truth BY TELLING YOUR STORY!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Mavis, I am quoting Laura's purpose for this blog: "There have been many mis-understandings and rumors surrounding my running away from 'home' (I put this in quotations because it is no longer my home).
I would like to put some of these to rest."

As I read Laura's story, I read about a girl who was growing up into independence (as God intends every person He created to do), struggling to find this independence, and after years of hurt but growing in the Lord, finding it in her heart to forgive the offender.

Laura, I think it is noble of you to allow the hurt and abused who can identify with you to vent on your blog. This is necessary in the healing process.

    Michael Sullivant Jr.
Travis, Are you saying you can judge a person's salvation? Is scoring a point on a blog more important than an eternal soul's salvation?

Mavis was simply trying to point out the TRUTH of 1Co 10:31-33 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
1Co 10:32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:
1Co 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

  19. Eph 4:15 "Speak the truth in love." I believe that Laura is trying to do that and I applaud her efforts.
Others however are not expressing love at all. I have carefully read through all of the blog posts and so many of these posts are hurtful and donwright insulting. I wonder how Jesus feels when he sees his beloved children behaving like this?
I would encourage everyone to carefully and prayerfully consider what they post here.
This has quickly morphed from being Laura's story to being the story of an entire community.

  25. Mavis, if your family is rejecting Christ, would they not base their decision much more likely on someone's testimony closer to home, i.e. family, instead of some random anonymous blog commentators?

In addition, quoting Mavis: "Most of my relatives are lost and on their way to hell."

Quoting Michael Sullivant Jr.to Travis: "Are you saying you can judge a person's salvation?"

Such inconsistency. First Mavis judges people's salvation, then Michael seems to say that we should not judge a person's salvation.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Every single person shows their fruit, whether good or bad. Everything we think, say, or do has consequences for eternity. God will be our judge.

I agree, alot of inconsistency on here.

Michael Sullivant Jr. (in the Bitterness comments): you say your dad did right according to the Bible. Where does it say we are supposed to pray for your child to die when they don't do what you, a mere human, think is the right thing for them to do?

You're right, hate does not bring glory to God, but revealing the truth does bring glory to God and will often bring out the hate in those that do not want to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sorry, I meant Jonathan's post on the Bitterness page, not Mike Jr.

  28. In a sense, I somewhat agree with Mavis on the point that this blog (comments part) seems to be turning into more of a forum to share our grievances rather than uplift a woman who is looking to heal from a life of pain. As born-again Christians, shouldn't we be supporting in a positive/prayful manner rather than sitting around bashing each other? If exact "proof" of something is being asked for, it should be presented to the person questioning. If someone wants to know, provide your email or phone number. Otherwise, to the world, this looks like nothing other than exactly what they don't want to be. How many lost souls will stumble across this blog and be turned away? Think about it, guys.

  33. Hahahaha! I love this blog! I don't understand why people don't just leave PVBC and get away from the drama. There are many other awesome Churches out there and so much freedom! People, open your eyes and explore the world and what God all gave us! Who cares what PMS says or anyone else. For some reason, people like living in bondage I suppose! I also don't understand how people have time to go to church Sunday morning, evening, AND Wednesday evening. It seems like a cult to me. Just follow God in everything you do and in your thoughts! PMS is just a regular man and I don't think he was necessarily called by God to be in ministry. Just a self-proclaimed hypocrite.

  37. For the Parent:::
Through these comments I hear a lot of how Laura should be apologizing, but I think this is a no win situation.

Even if Laura did apologize, would the evil be undone? Or would it start all over again from the beginning.

Every parent is responsible for their children, even in rebellion (if that's what it was), but according to the PVBC Followers that's what they believe.

    Ephesians 6:4

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Praying for your child to die IS and WILL provoke anyone to wrath. Maybe PMS should be the one to start apologizing.

    For the Church:::
For what I have seen through the history is that files are being kept on the people inside the church. You are being encouraged to ask questions and if you don't agree with something he says, he encourages you to go and ask him.

But woe to anyone who asked the wrong questions. This may cause the witch hunt to begin and have you put under church discipline. Many of you that are defending the PVBC have yet to experience the wrath, but once you come into your own self and be convinced in your own mind what the bible says and confront any of the teachings, you will have your opportunity of feeling the wrath.

Before you have a chance to defend yourself, you will be pruned from the tree and all of your transgressions will be read out loud to the congregation. If you try to defend yourself it's considered defiance and you will be told to repent or leave.

Every one of us are only saved through Grace and Grace alone. There is nothing we can do on this earth by works that will open the gates of heaven for you. The only thing is accepting Jesus as your Saviour and believing in him will get you into heaven.

    Matthew 7
1Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

And no PMS or anyone of us is Exempt from this book in the bible.

    James 2:8-10
8If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
10For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

  38. So the church is sending money to missionaries?
I thought the Pastor keeps all the money.

I also heard that the church is still supporting all of its missionaries and taking more on for support.

this sounds like a church that cares about the souls of people around the world not just themselves. "Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is,there will your heartbe also."

Travis, Are you saying you can judge a person's salvation? Is scoring a point on a blog more important than an eternal soul's salvation?"

Do you not do the same thing? Is that not why you're in Thailand?

Is it safe to assume that everyone that leads, ministers in or goes to a Baptist church is saved? If so, why do you have an alter call after *every* service?

Would you not judge a person who exhibits the fruit of the Spirit as saved?

Careful now, I may lose even more friends over this one:
It is my judgment that the Independent Baptist movement is a pretense and far worse to the cause of Christ than anything we might say/do here. It is within this movement that people are lured by the free gospel and then bound in chains of bondage to servicing the organization, saying 'you're not right with God' if you're not giving all of your available talents and money.

Oh.... how I could go on.

  43. I was not going to comment, but I have to say something. First of all I am NOT a PVBC member, nor never have been, but as a believer and child of God, I have to say I am so deeply saddened to read this blog. I think everyone needs to take a step back and examine ourselves. Where is Christ in all this, where is love? All I'm reading is hateful, comments full of bitterness, strife and hate written by self proclaiming "Christians"...Shame on you! I'm in shock! I can't even begin to imagine what God is thinking right now.
Laura- I don't not know you, but I can relate to your story, because I have a similar one, but with a much different ending. My parents too forbid me to be with a boy that I really liked as a teenager. But unlike you, I was going to listen to my parents. But once I submitted to my parents will, my mom saw how torn I was, and she loved me and wanted me to be happy, she changed her mind! She says now she is very happy that she did, because that boy that they forbid me to see, is now my husband of 10 years. Many hurtful things were said and done, But I would never post those things for the whole world to see, because they are things I am a ashamed of, and I respect and love my parents too much to do that to them. I know now my parents did what they did because they loved me, and were looking out for my best interest, and you need to realize your parents loved you(love) you enough that they were doing the same, (even though I don't agree with everything your father did, But they are only human. Humans make mistakes too) And we need to remember, things often appear much worse when we are teenagers, in the heat of the moment, hormones are going crazy. I can reacll many times, when both me and my parents acted crazy! lol, we can actually look back on it and laugh now. And simply sometimes, parents just don't always know how to deal with certain situations right, they make mistakes too. That doesn't mean you hold that against them forever. That requires, forgiveness, and maturity.
Laura, To me it sound like you have NOT forgiven your Father at all! I do NOT believe God lead you to write this blog. God would not use something like this. This is full of the devil's handy work. Laura you should be ashamed of yourself. You need to go to your father in person, and forgive him and also ask to be forgiven.
To the rest of you who have made all the horrible hateful comments on here shame on you!
    Just remember these word
" If any man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar; for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" 1 John 4:20
" He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." 1 John 4 :8
And remember these words from Christ, the one you claim to know...
"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth ggod things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgement." Matthew 12:35,36. Remember Christ's words, every word that comes out of our mouths, we will have to give account for, and there have been many, many evil, hateful spoken( written) things on here. As believer's, Children of God, we need to remember that Christ is living in us, and we are representing him every day with our actions and words. Please, lets stop the hateful comments, and start showing love, respect to one another, as Christ would want us too.

are you not doing the very same thing? we all have a right to our opinion and you fortunately had a very wise mother but what if you had not? unless you walk a mile in someones shoes you can never say what path you would have taken. by voicing your opinion (which is JUST that), because you have not walked in Lauras shoes, you are letting the world know what you think and feel. does not everyone have that very same right? backing it up biblically is noble but may i remind you that we as christians are commanded to seperate the chaff from the wheat and to watch out for the wolf amongst the sheep. until you can say that you have been a member of the PVBC or that you have had one on one with MS as so many have had be careful not to judge to quickly or harshly especially in regards to Laura and her situation. remember you have to seperate what Laura is saying and what other people are saying. at no time have I heard Laura say anything AGAINST her parents but has only said the facts. i am saying this with no malice to you or your opinion. In Christ

  47. Travis, was it you that the PMS placed the famous Alexander the coppersmith curse on or am I thinking of someone else? If it was you how did it work out?

    ReplyDelete
  48. To john and Heather Dyck, I did not write anything hateful. I am merely basing my opinion as an outsider looking in at Laura's story. I have never met Laura, or PMS. I have never even been to the Baptist church, but I do know a lot of good people that go there. I was not saying that I agreed with the way PMS handled everything. I also don't know the whole story, I have just read Laura's side of the story but I can relate. Like I said, Me and my parents would probably sound pretty horrible and crazy too, if I would post every word, and action that happened while I was a teenager.
I did not read anything in there that can't be forgiven. I have forgiven people in my life for much worse things. But with forgiveness, comes forgetting. By rehashing it, (to the whole world) through a blog, is not forgiving. If she has truly forgiven her father, then she would go to him in person, not like this.
Actually, as I was reading her story I felt for her, because I remembered feeling much the same way, there were times I even thought of running away . But I was a child then, I thought as a child, and also acted as a child. It just seems so sad that something like that could tear up a Father and daughter's relationship for 12 years. I pray that there will be reconciliation between them, and that they can find peace and forgiveness.
What bothered me the most was not her story, but all the hateful comments on this blog, from "Christians", and there is no excuse for that. Even if you don't agree with the PVBC you don't need to hate them. Would Christ tell you to write those things? No, ofcourse not! I have nothing against the PVBC, or Laura, or PMS, or anyone else for that matter. I simply was rebuking the ungodly comments made by "Christians".
This whole thing is just so sad and breaks my heart.

  49. I'm gonna pull a PMS here and say something he's probably said to many going through trials in their lives....

"Perhaps you're not right with God, and this is the reason He is allowing this Blog. Maybe, this is His way of chasening YOU!"

  50. (Psa 97:10) Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

(Pro 8:13) The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Based on my experience with PMS and many others, he defines the word evil. Based on the bible, we are to HATE evil. Oh and so does God.

  51. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS:

Who has PMS helped? (e.g. better life, lead to Christ, not guilted, uplifts their spirit long term, etc.)

I have read and know alot about what he does and facts about him, but please, speak up about one good thing he had done for you, that he has done for other people as well! Just ONE thing! I can't!

And all you people who keep quoting scripture, STOP (you won't, I know), unless you are doing it in a way to not guilt someone. Seems like a Baptist thing. God gave us the Bible to learn from so we can live more for Him!

  57. I think perhaps one of the biggest misconceptions of the comment thread here is that many people left PVBC or are against Mike BECAUSE of Laura.
You would be wrong. Very wrong. What happened with Laura was beyond awful, and some people did leave or get shunned as a result, but there are many MANY people who have loved PMS and PVBC until we saw something we shouldn't have seen, or heard something we shouldn't have heard (perhaps some biblical truth or evidence against PMS) or the numerous occasions (I lost count) where people were going to him alone or in most cases with more than one witness with a problem or question and anytime people did so, they were no longer part of the church, or church disciplined, or suddenly "called" somewhere else.

We saw the cheerful pastor preach 3x a week and all we saw was good happening. Let me just put it out there, that until YOU yourself have had a run-in with who PMS really is, then you will never believe things against him. Until you've been the one in his office seeing what several people have described it as "it was as if there was another person in him" then you will keep doing what you’re doing, and blindly defend that which in your eyes is good and right.
He used to be a good man. A man God was using. Then ultimate power corrupted. Religion took over. God got locked outside the church doors, and several people got spiritually abused and scarred so badly that they will never recover.
People will never darken the door of ANY church ever again because PVBC, along with its pastor & congregation was their only experience with Christianity, and therefore thought that was who Christ was.

PMS isn’t the only person at fault here. There are many in leadership that are as corrupt as they come. Jeff Friesen has done a lot of damage as well. Between the two, I honestly wonder who’s lied more. During my teen years Jeff saw it fit to see how far he could push me away from Christ. False accusations, downright lies, cornering me & screaming at me, the list goes on.

One must asked themselves, why PMS has allowed and continues to allow immature Christians (e.g. not knowing what the bible says) to form the minds & belief systems of the Sunday School & College & Career Students. Here are some out of the MANY things I didn't appreciate being taught:

    1. The Virgin Birth is not biblical or truthful. (I know PMS believes it IS biblical and truthful, but did nothing to stop the teacher who said otherwise)
    2. In the first 3 weeks of my life, I committed an awful sin that caused me to have Cystic Fibrosis. This goes for my two CF sisters as well.
    3. Jonah was in the whale for 4 days and 4 nights.

Michael Sullivant Jr. was the only decent youth leader I had. I appreciated his SS lessons. He & Maureen were very kind & loving.

To those of you who have had your curiosity peeked, perhaps try to contact some of the many deacons or college leaders that are no longer a part of the church, who left quietly because that was the more delicate solution rather then getting their families hurt.

To the hurt & spiritually abused: I've been there. I didn't touch my bible for over a year, and I wanted nothing to do with God because I thought if THAT is what God is, and if THAT is what real Christianity is, then I want NOTHING to do with it. If it weren't for my sister Helene, dragging my butt back to church (not PVBC) I have no idea where I would be right now.
Growing up, I would day dream and pretend we went to a different church where people were kind, and non-judgmental, and showed the love of God. God heard the cries of my heart and gave me a church experience that changed my life forever. I love the Lord with all my heart and I can't get enough of Him, and His word.

To PMS, Jeff, and the numerous people who spiritually hurt me, I forgive you. I did years ago. I pray for you often. I wish you would stop hurting others, and destroying families. If your goal is to impress Satan, you’re doing a fantastic job.

Laura, you are an amazing woman! I continue to see how you & Jason raise your daughters to the glory of God. Being able to go back down memory lane and tell your story takes an incredibly strong woman.

I thought the day would never come (here on this earth) where PMS would be shown as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I can’t help but think of Psalm 37:13 when PMS & PVBC and all involved in the corruption come to mind.

... And lastly to you out there who stay at PVBC because you think that's the only good local church, let me tell you - there are 2 that I know of that are wonderful! And no, PVBC is not the only KJV church in town. There is 1 more.

I'll leave you with a quote ... "I like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

  60. I don't think that the question is "if PMS has done good for people, he obviously has. But the biggest issue seem to be lack of accountability.

Life is easy when you surround yourself with people that agree with you, and remove anyone that disagrees.

Jim Jones lead people to the lord as well.....then they drank poison kool-aid.

I know PMS would likely never do that, but i'm making the point that good deeds don't make you a good leader

A good leader would call his daughter and make things right

  62. How do we know if he hasn't tried? I would like to hear more of Laura's life, after her leaving? Did she or her father ever try to make ammends? How did you and Jason meet? Where do you go to church now?

  63. I think Mike Sullivant needs to step down and first fix his family, and then all the broken relationships that have come out of PVBC church. I don't know everyone's story, but I have read enough to see that there are a lot of people spiritaully hurting, and broken, and most of their pain has been caused by Mike Sullivant. People are severally in the dark about what is going on, or someone is severally lying.... I don't think PMS is a horrible man, but he needs to take some responsibility, for his actions before he should continue to lead God's sheep. I've been very disturbed by this blog.
And As for the rest of us, we need to pray for Laura, PMS and their family, and all the families who have been broken. Pray for forgiveness, reconciliation, and repentence, and we need to stop bashing and slandering PMS and the PVBC.It's not making things better, and it's not what Jesus would do either. but rather pray for them. WE should all be mourning rather than glorifying in someones fall.

You'll never find out my secret identity, coppers! It's obvious that if I hadn't painstakingly incorporated both my first name and the first letter of my surname into my cleverly-disguised moniker, a sleuth like you would find out my true identity and unearth untold scandal about me, like the time I went on a cocaine-fueled bender in Vegas with hookers and strippers, and that my wife has been known to wear pants. Where in the Bible do you see where it says with forgiving comes forgetting? I feel the need to give you an example to help bring you to reality? Lets suppose a mother walked into a room to find a man that she had over to her house molesting her little girl. I wonder how soon she would forget and let the man back in her house? I'm fairly certain that God gave us a memory for a reason so that maybe we don't make mistakes over and over again.

Also, isn't it the parents job to train and nurture their children in such a way that before they ever become of age that they are mature enough to make decisions that they are willing to except the consequences to?

Just a thought... when God impresses something on our hearts as His children and we choose to go another path, does he then pray and wish that we would die? Also doesn't God allow us as His children to make our own choices, mistakes etc. and still hold us close? Sometimes its necessary for parents to let their children do what they choose and if it happens to be a mistake then so be it. God gave us free will... what a concept... yes there are consequences for making a wrong choice but at least he's not trying to force his ideal choice for us down our throats. We should follow in His example.

  106. My father used to tell me, "Do what you want,You are the man." I thought I had liberty, but I was in bondage. My new Father tells me not to lie, steal, lust, kill etc etc etc. Some call this bondage, I call it love. All I can say is life has sure been good since the God of Heaven adopted a unworthy worm. I did wander away from Him years ago. People "helped" me by saying, "You will love the "far country" the sights are something to behold." You know when I woke up in that pig pen, all my so called friends were gone. My clothes stunk and I did not look like a child of the King. You want to know what woke me up? It was a non believer who said," Jason, you are trying to fit in with us, but you will never be like us. He told me, "You are like that Bible guy in the boat, you should know him." I said,"Yeah, his name is Jonah" I'll never forget my co-worker's response,"Why don't you get out of here and save yourself and come back and save me?" I wandered in the wilderness for awhile yet and considered my "latter end." I decided to swallow my pride and go back to my Heavenly Father. You know, I barely got out a few words and then He hugged my neck and gave me a robe, a ring and put shoes on my feet. Oh yeah, the fatted calf still tastes good. Having considered my "latter end" I decided to call the pastor, who will never defend himself from slander, just to say sorry for believing "undocumented facts." You know this past year Me, my wife and four kids graduated from Bible College. It was a team effort. How did this happen? A pastor, his wife and the Lord's Church never quit praying for me. You know what is amazing? The pastor who many wrote off is still serving God,his wife encourages my wife regularly, and his kid's have a sweet spirit. What is the point of this one and only posting? It sure feels good to be HOME(God's will)
We all need to really "consider our latter end" and go to our Heavenly Father and say sorry for.... We must all appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ. I made my bed, I laid in the pig pen and then I chose to walk towards real freedom and by God's grace, I am not looking back. I am genuinely praying for those who need repentance, restoration and release from the snare of Satan.

  112. I have lots of questions and I hope some members of the Baptist or previous members can answer them.

    1. Is there a book of the Bible or chapter of the Bible that the church does not read or approve of? If yes, which one? Why?

    2. What passages in the Bible confirm that the women should only wear dresses/skirts all the time?

    3. I have heard (but do not know first hand) that Baptists believe that you are only saved if you have been baptized by being submerged in water.. is this true? Why?

    4. It is also spoken of that Baptist members do not drink, not even wine at communion. Is this also true? Why?

    5. What about the Holy Spirit? I have heard that Baptists are almost against the Holy Spirit.. the complete opposite of Pentecostal Christians.

    6. A couple of the comments mentioned sheep and gentiles. Who do the Baptist members consider the sheep and who do they consider the gentiles? why?

    7. I confess to be a born again believer. A Christian. And I believe that I will go to heaven when I die. But.. once a couple of Baptist women came to my door and I told them just that and they told me I wasn't saved.. but had no answer for me as to why. My question to you is.. Why? Why am I not saved but you are?

Thanks for your time and answers.

Laura.. I have never gone to the Baptist church but have friends and family that are members there, people whom I love and care for deeply. I thank you for being open and willing to be a vessel of truth. Bless you.

  114. Anonymous with the questions:
    1. All the Bible is approved of.
    2. The church teaches that all people should dress modestly, but this is in no way demanded, it is a personal decision. It is probably too lengthy an explanation for this blog, but you would be welcome to a book on the topic from the church's bookstore.
    3. A person is saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. You can be saved and not baptized. Baptism is an outward act that happens afterwards to show you are saved. The Bible teaches that baptism is by immersion in the water. (this pictures being fully placed into Christ)
    4. The church teaches that alcohol is a sin Prov.20:1 For communion they use grape juice which is pure and unfermented, to represent a pure and holy Saviour.
    5. The Holy Spirit dwells in all believers as soon as you become a Christian. He is there to guide us and convict us as we yield and surrender our lives to Christ.
    6. I think they mentioned sheep and wolves. Sheep would be Christians, and wolves would be those that want to harm the sheep.
    7. I'm not sure why they would have thought that you are not saved. To be saved you must believe you are a sinner - Romans 3:23, believe that the penalty for sin is death - Romans 6:23, believe that Jesus paid that penalty for you - Romans 5:8, and ask Jesus to come into your heart and save you - Romans 10:10&13.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Thank you for your answers to my questions.

#4.. why does the church teach that alcohol is a sin? Matt 11:18-19 "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath the devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children." KJV

I am not justified drunkenness because I myself have never had a sip of alcohol other than at communion. But if you teach that alcohol is a sin than you are saying that Jesus himself sinned because He Himself said that he came "eating and drinking". Are you then followers of John the Baptist who came "neither eating nor drinking" instead of Jesus?

Again, I'm not trying to start an argument.. these are just questions I have had for years but no one has been willing to answer them.

    Thanks.

don't waste your time, they do not follow the bible they follow a man's view of what the bible says and use only the verses that fit their view. their view on modesty - not found in the bible (I've done detailed research, your theories and arguments do not make sense)

same goes for alcohol. I'm not saying that NOT drinking and dressing like they do is BAD, I'm just saying its not biblical.

  118. To the person with questions. (I don't go to PVBC) The alcohol from what I was taught growing up is to safe guard against something to can control you. Most people make very poor decisions when drinking. Baptist churches can split over this issue because on one hand we are commnand "Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess," Eph 5:18 but on the other hand Timothy commands Titus I Timothy 5:23 "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities." Which if you take as the exact words not changing wine to medicine (Timothy to Titus) you can run into problems. As a parent, I will urge my children never to start to drink because it is to easy to go to far, drink more than should; but for what the Bible says those were the explanations I was always given.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Rebecca, I am questioning your study.
Is how you personally dress based on Bible? I've seen you in some very bare skin and tight attire just checking the links from this blog. Not judging at all as I have worn such myself, but you are saying a very loaded statement here, that calls what is "Biblical" to question. If you want to be Biblical, the Bible says ALOT about the dress of a harlot, nakedness, the strange woman, lusting, the body being a temple of God, the outward adorning, the inward adorning, showing flesh, holiness. I could go on and on to numerous prinicples and commands.
People study the Bible besides you, and you are not serious to think that 500 plus people that go to the pvbc not to mention many other baptist and other conservative churches in the world are all only believing what the pastor says and his view? That is a very presumptuous childish attitude. Maybe you only followed him when you were there, till you decided not to follow him no more. Maybe you didn't have Bible convictions, that doesn't mean that other people don't. My view on modesty came entirely from the Word of God before I ever met the pastor of my church.
Shun and deter people from a church that God may use in their lives?
You honestly think about how much you studied your Bible and prayed this week girl, and remember there is a God in heaven who loves you, but also wants you be a sweet savour of Christ. Telling people this garbage as in your previous post is going against the work of God. People get saved and helped at pvbc, face it. You didn't grow there so no one else can, or you will try to prevent others from it? I am amazed at many of you for your active roll in this matter. You all may go to any church, pvbc members leave it at that, just leave THEM alone. And the reason it gets ugly where shunning happens is because you won't quit at just yourself you got to make sure the whole world sees it your way, leaving your family members etc. no choice but to hide from your hatred of their church and pastor. People are smarter than you think, they read their Bibles, they try to live holy, they try to be Biblical, and Pastor Sullivant or YOU have nothing to do with alot of their personal convictions.....except for the fact that HE has always told people to continue to read and study and you are telling me you already studied it out for this person. Kind of demanding to tell them to take your belief. So you think everything is a preference, great for you, but not a church matter of your concern. To tell someone to not listen to answers to questions. Talk about trying to control people. I thought the answers from whomever they are were very sound. Let them choose! They simply stated what the church taught and offered a book for their own information. But AHHHH Rebecca has the answers to all Biblical knowledge...don't listen, don't listen, I I I KNOW.
I'm sorry, to call this baptist church a cult is absolutely and completely wicked. Get your nose out of joint over a real cult. I have family members dying and going to hell in false Gospel religions. Outrage over pvbc and the pastor's, REALLY, in all my days I have never been so embarrassed by this Christian community called Winkler.

    ReplyDelete
  120. To Anon 5:32 addressed to Rebecca.. May I ask where your family members who are dying and going to hell in false Gospel religions are going to church? Please do tell. I've studied it and so has the rest of my family, you would be surprised who agree on whether its biblical or not. many dress like you do as to not "offend" other members of your church, not because they believe it is right.

I dress like my husband wishes me to, the bible is very clear on obeying one's husband. as to the harlot comment, I've never been mistaken for one, if I ever am I'll definitely have to rethink what I'm wearing.
men lust at anything that walks, skirts are a very big turn on for them, doesn't matter how long they are. its in the spirit of how you dress and your motives.
you are taught to judge a person by their principles of dress, whether thats the way mike plain out says it or implies it.
I've been attending a church for over a year now that the spirit of Christ is not only felt but acted on, people there can see the love of Christ and one's dress goes along with that.

PVBC is a cult, has all the red flags of a cult. you let a man pastor you even though biblically he should not be. I kept my mouth shut for a very long time to keep the peace in my family, but now what has happened? this continuation of hurt and abuse will not stop, how long will it be or how many people have to be hurt for you all to open your eyes? the bible has a lot to say about false prophets and cunning men. you are being deceived, I was once too... until my family is whole again I will not stop Marking the man who is causing divisions, its my Christian duty.

Are you by any chance talking of Doug Adamson? From the early days of PVBC?
